At LJPFA, we want to ensure that all our players participate in a challenging and motivating environment, alongside players of a similar footballing level. We find, where players compete with others of similar ability, this accelerates development and progression for all concerned.
In all our age categories we therefore work with two groups – an Academy group and a Development group.
Both these groups receive the same, high-quality coaching led and designed by Head Coach Luke Joyce.
We understand that all young players have different levels of ability and that skill sets vary significantly from one player to another. This can change quite dramatically in a short period of time as the player grows, matures and trains within a professional environment (particularly in the Youth Development Phase). Young people also develop physically and mentally at different rates and at different ages; at LJPFA, we are fully aware of this, so we ensure our Coaching Groups take these factors into consideration and are formed accordingly.
As a coaching team we will work with the players in coaching sessions and matches, placing them within either the Academy or Development group based on our assessment of –
Ability – Potential – Attitude – Application to learning – Behaviour
The key difference between Development and Academy group is that matches played against Professional clubs will predominantly be selected from the Academy players. Our players stay with their respective groupings each week in order to ensure consistency; however, we recognise that players progressions vary and, where we feel a player would benefit by working with a different group, we would move them from Development to Academy, or vice versa.
Since the launch of the LJPFA in April 2019 we have built up a fantastic reputation across the North West; with players from Academies such as Morecambe, Preston North End, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool attending our sessions as additional training.
Attracting players of this calibre has come about through the quality of our Coaching Sessions and has helped raise the games of our grassroots players.
Head Coach Luke has built up an excellent reputation through his 17 year professional career and developed strong relationships across the footballing pyramid from Premier League clubs to non-league.
Luke’s connections with local professional clubs has resulted in opportunities for our players to visit Academies such as Accrington Stanley, Oldham Athletic, AFC Fylde, Morecambe, Fleetwood and Bolton Wanderers.
We are absolutely delighted that LJPFA players, Harrison S & Joe N have both signed for Bolton Wanderers, and Rohan B has signed for Accrington Stanley.
